ZETATECH Delivers a 1MW / 2.08MWh Solar-Storage-Diesel Hybrid Microgrid Project
Release time : 2026.11.06

In weak-grid and off-grid areas, unreliable electricity supply and high diesel generation costs remain major challenges for businesses and local communities. Maintaining a stable power supply while controlling energy costs is therefore a key priority for industrial facilities and remote operations.

To address these challenges, ZETATECH has successfully delivered a 1MW / 2.08MWh hybrid microgrid project, integrating solar PV, battery energy storage, and diesel generation into a coordinated power supply system. Designed to support critical loads and everyday electricity demand, the project combines renewable energy utilization, battery-based power balancing, and diesel backup to improve power reliability and operational flexibility.

Project Overview: A 1MW / 2.08MWh Hybrid Microgrid Solution

The project integrates multiple energy sources into a unified microgrid architecture, enabling coordinated power generation, storage, and distribution according to actual operating conditions.

The main system configuration includes:

8 × 125kW PCS units, providing 1MW of total power conversion capacity.

8 × 261kWh battery cabinets, delivering approximately 2.08MWh of total energy storage capacity.

5 × 63kW MPPT solar charge controllers, supporting solar PV integration.

1 × 200kW diesel generator, providing supplementary power when required.

By combining solar PV generation, battery energy storage, and diesel generation, the system establishes a flexible energy supply structure for applications where grid access is limited or unavailable.

Coordinated Solar, Battery, and Diesel Power Management

The hybrid microgrid prioritizes solar energy utilization while using battery storage and diesel generation to maintain a stable power supply under changing operating conditions.

During periods of sufficient sunlight, solar PV generation supplies the loads first, with surplus energy available for battery charging. The battery energy storage system helps balance fluctuations in solar generation and load demand, storing excess energy for use when solar output decreases.

At night, during periods of insufficient solar generation, or when battery state of charge (SOC) reaches a predefined threshold, the diesel generator provides additional power as needed.

This coordinated operating strategy improves energy utilization, reduces dependence on diesel generation, and helps lower fuel consumption and associated operating costs.

Intelligent Control and Integrated Energy Management

Stable microgrid operation requires coordinated control of multiple energy sources. ZETATECH's Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control technology supports adaptive parallel operation of multiple PCS units without inter-unit communication, as well as coordinated operation with diesel generators. Its primary and secondary frequency regulation functions help enhance voltage and frequency stability and improve load response.

The solar PV system adopts a DC/DC-coupled architecture, reducing energy conversion stages and helping optimize system efficiency and cost. Meanwhile, the Energy Management System (EMS) monitors power flows, battery SOC, and equipment status in real time, coordinating solar generation, battery storage, and diesel generation according to load demand and operating conditions. An integrated Static Transfer Switch (STS) supports switching between grid-connected and off-grid operating modes, providing greater flexibility under different power supply conditions.

Flexible Applications for Weak-Grid and Off-Grid Energy Needs

Power infrastructure, electricity demand, and energy costs vary across locations. ZETATECH's solar-storage-diesel hybrid microgrid solution can be configured to meet different project requirements, particularly in weak-grid, off-grid, and diesel-dependent applications.

Typical application scenarios include:

Weak-Grid Factories: Improve power supply stability and reduce the impact of grid disturbances on production and daily operations.

Mining Sites and Remote Camps: Reduce reliance on diesel generation, helping lower fuel consumption and associated operating costs in remote locations.

Off-Grid Islands: Prioritize solar PV and battery energy storage, with diesel generation providing supplementary power when needed to support reliable off-grid electricity supply.
